The Courage To Dream
August 28, 1963. A seemingly ordinary day. August 28, 1963. It’s not a date that jogs your memory as to the events of that day. August 28, 1963. It lacks the earth-shattering quality of a September 11, 2001. In fact even in it’s own year of 1963, it’s often overlooked and overshadowed because on November 22 of that year, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated.
But August 28, 1963 equals all of those previous dates in its importance upon the landscape of American history. For it was on that hot Wednesday afternoon that Dr. Martin Luther King saw a broken world in need of hope and boldly declared, “I have a dream”.
Like so many throughout history, Dr. King reminds us of the power in believing in a cause bigger than yourself. Genesis shows us that Abraham had a God-given dream too. His family was to become a great nation. People all over the earth would be blessed through Abraham. Wow, what an honor! But Abraham had to act. He couldn’t wait for it just appear. He had to leave his home and follow God. He had to start walking even before he knew where the road would lead.
So it is with us. We can’t stand and wait. We must obey and go. Faith and dreams without action only lead to unfulfilled potential. So many times we think we’re walking in faith but we’re really just standing in hope.
Challenge:
What’s your God-given dream that’s bigger than you? What steps do you need to take to see it come to pass?
