God Created - Genesis 1:1

“In the beginning God created” (Genesis 1:1). The first thing we read about God in the Bible is that “God created.” Yes, our God is creative! He perfectly designed the details of the heavens and the earth out of nothing! Everything on the earth was well thought out and spoken to life! Friend, have you ever taken a moment to pause and take a good look at all the beautiful details of this wondrous earth that we call home?

I remember when I went to pick some peaches and sunflowers at a farm. After stuffing my bag with all the juiciest peaches I could find, I noticed two green beetles on a peach tree branch. They had to be the prettiest, shiniest green beetles I’ve ever seen. It was amazing! Ok, maybe I overreacted to these beetles. I couldn’t help but admire the metallic, fluorescent green color with hints of yellow, red, orange, and gold. I'm sure many artists try to achieve this color by mixing and layering multiple colors together. Yet, it “wows” me to think God creates the color on the beetle, sunflower, and peaches from completely nothing. He simply spoke wonders into existence. In that moment, I was reminded of the true beauty within God’s creation. God is so amazing!

After God created the world, the whole universe, including those little green beetles, He said it was “good.” Yet when He created humanity, He said it was “very good. God created us in His image; everything about our physical bodies, our unique personalities, and the essence of who God created us to be is exceptionally good. God created us with good intentions. In the same way I was in awe of that beetle, every time God looks at us, He’s in awe because we are so beautiful and precious to Him. Our value to God is priceless! Don’t you want to be closer to the fascinating, boundlessly loving, and astounding Creator of the universe?

Creative Prompt: Reflect on some of the amazing things from God’s wonderful creation. It could be your favorite pet, the beautiful treetops in your backyard, or the luscious beaches at your favorite vacation spot. Maybe it’s someone special to you or perhaps more colorful beetles. Whatever it is, begin to create a picture of what God created for you to enjoy!
