If I Could Have Anything

If I could have anything let it be Your eyes on me

Do you know that you have the attention and affection of the Creator of all things? That His very good thoughts toward you cannot be numbered? That His plans for you are only ever good?

The same God who breathed stars into existence and knows each one by name is the same God who lovingly created you and calls you by yours.

Our world changes when we know we have the gaze of the One true God. We cannot encounter Him - His love and His presence - and stay the same.

Are we open to the movements of His heart? Are we listening to the sound of His voice? Are we obedient to His leading?

We are called to be living sacrifices, and sacrifices are meant to burn. Our lives are set ablaze by the power and work of the Holy Spirit. We are the light of the world, a city set on a hill, a light that cannot be hidden.

May I love your presence more than anything You’ve given me

So often we seek the hand of God, but the better thing would be to seek His heart. He already tells us that He will give us everything we need for life and godliness, so we can thankfully trust Him to keep His Word and promises of provision. He does not give as the world gives with strings attached; He is a generous, kind-hearted God who knows all of our needs before we even do and freely gives us all that we need.

Seeking His heart is more than a religious regiment or Sunday morning service; it’s a spark that is ignited in the sacredness of the secret place. It’s a continual pursuit of His holiness in the majesty of the mundane. It’s the ordinary everyday moments that are marked by the thumbprints of an Almighty God who already intimately knows His people and wants to dwell among us.

Song of Solomon 4:9 shows us exactly how God feels about His church, His bride:

You have captured my heart, my treasure, my bride. You hold it hostage with one glance of your eyes.

The One who loves you most is waiting for you to lock eyes with Him. He is waiting for you to turn your attention and affection wholly toward Him. A heart that chooses to worship Him in triumph and in trial, knowing that His love is all that we will ever need.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

  1. What do you actually believe God thinks about you? Has that changed over time?
  2. How does it feel to know God’s gaze is on you?
  3. How do you hear the sound of His voice?
  4. What do you want more than anything?
  5. How do you find God in ordinary, everyday life?
