There's Hope For Today

DAY 301 OF 366

An older Christian song said it best: “People Need the Lord.” We are surrounded by people who are spiritually dead. We can give them life, if we only will. We need to meet them where they are. A sixty-minute church service isn’t going to make their list of choices. The good Samaritan didn’t stand on the far side of the road shouting instructions through a bull horn – he had to go to the beaten man and carry him to the inn.

We need to show them the “real thing!” They won’t sign up for Bible lessons – they’re looking for an example to follow. We need to walk them through the process of discipleship. One cannot assume that a seeker has any religious foundation these days. We must become mentors lest we be found guilty of dumping the wounded Samaritan on the doorstep of the inn. Post-Christian America is a demanding mission field. The pagan culture we used to evangelize abroad lives right next door.

If we don’t instruct, if we don’t equip, if we don’t set anchor points, the seeker will keep seeking and drown within sight of the shore.

The “always and forever” message of the Gospel can change the world when it’s demonstrated in a life, spoken in love, and felt in the touch of a church turned inside out.
