THOUGHT OF THE DAY
Earlier this week, we spent time reflecting on our nation and our leaders. When we are constantly bombarded by statistics of our world’s brokenness, it can be easy to feel as though we as an individual have no power to change anything. Our world often has a way of making us feel jaded and, as a result, it can be easy for us to ignore large scale or generalized needs. However, the more specific we can be, the easier it is for us to take practical steps toward a larger cause.
Today we are going to focus more specifically on bringing good into our immediate communities. Let’s be specific. What if someone were to tell you that many citizens in the GTA struggle with food insecurity? With such a large and general claim, it can be easy to move on from this conversation feeling as though you cannot make an impact. However, if I were to tell you that your neighbour was having a rough week and you could make their day by dropping off dinner, what would happen then? The point is this: We cannot succumb to the idea that our small acts don’t have massive implications. We are called to care for our neighbours and to be lights in the darkness. Our menial acts of kindness can greatly impact our city – one person at a time. What could God do in our city if we began to take small simple steps of compassion toward the people around us? God’s desire is to make our city new. The question is, what role will you play in that process?
GUIDED PRAYER
Lord, embolden and empower me to be an agent of change in my neighbourhood. My heart is for You and Your people; help me move my thoughts to actions. Father, guide me today, reveal to me every opportunity, small or large, where I am able to bring Your kingdom to earth here in my city.
Help me to be a person full of Your Spirit in all that I do. Lord, I desire to be like Your Son, Jesus. I desire to be Your hands and feet in my city. Open my eyes and help me to see the people and places around me like You see them. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
