THOUGHT OF THE DAY
When we meditate on the Word of God, His ways and principles start to permeate our lives by the Holy Spirit. Read this from Psalm 1:1-3:
Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither whatever they do prospers.
As we grow in a fuller understanding of the scriptures, our minds become aligned with the will of God. When the seeds of God’s Word are planted in our lives, they begin to grow and help us change our thought patterns. Through this growth, the kingdom of God will be expressed as our thinking is transformed to mirror Christ’s. Read this from Romans 12:2:
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Let’s continue to walk through John 14:18-21:
I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Yet a little while and the world will see me no more, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you. Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.
Today, read this portion of scripture out loud three times, each slower than the last. As we get towards the end of the week, how has your understanding of John 14:18-21 changed? Take some time to reflect on the aspects of this week that were most significant to your understanding of the verses from John 14.
GUIDED PRAYER
Lord, help me to understand Your Word better. Help me to set aside my assumptions to best approach Your Word the way You intended. Father, bring people and mentors to my path that will challenge me and teach me a new depth of Your Word.
In this process, help me to remain humble. Help me to be filled with knowledge and Your presence in my life. Lord, bring balance. I desire a fullness of understanding and a fullness of Your presence in my life. Lord, help me to better understand Your Holy scripture so that I can better serve You in my community by becoming more like Your Son. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
