In a book entitled, Sun Stand Still, there’s a capturing notion of what we could call, “Big Hairy Audacious Prayers,” (BHAPs). Can you imagine the audacity of Joshua who prays in public, “Sun, stand still”? Come on, some of us have degrees in Science! Still, we must conclude, “My God is big enough to make even the sun stand still.” This being the case, what keeps us from praying boldly? Simply, with bold prayers comes the possibility of big disappointment. What if God doesn’t show up? What if God puts us on hold? However, taking a cue from Joshua’s story, when God calls us to attempt something bold for Him according to His Word, then we are invited to pray Big Hairy Audacious Prayers.

Creator God, you hold the heavens in your hands; you have laid the foundations of the earth. Today I come to you with the bold confidence of a child who knows their daddy is a big, big God. I pray the faith as small as a mustard seed will lead me to pray dreams as large as Mt. Everest. Never let me shrink back from believing you are the God who does big things through small people like me. I ask this in the Name of Jesus, the name above all names. So be it!
