ACTION Prayer

This past week, we’ve covered some difficult ground. We have considered what it really means to worship. We have also explored the human tendency to exchange the worship of the creator for created things. We have done some deep soul-searching related to our own thoughts and actions.

Today, we want to slow down and spend some additional time sitting before the Lord in prayer.

We have created a prayer guide called “ACTION.” The letters of ACTION stand for Adore, Confess, Thank, Invite, Observe, and Needs. ACTION isn’t meant to feel formal or legalistic- but to guide you into an intentional, quiet space with the Lord. Read through the ACTION prayer guide below and then try it out in your own prayer time today.

Adore the Lord.

"Sing the praises of the Lord, you his faithful people; praise his holy name" (Psalm 30:4).

Lord, I praise You for … (a quality or attribute of God).

Confess your sins.

"Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord" (Acts 3:19).

God, I am deeply sorry for … (anything that has separated you from God). Please forgive me.

Thank God.

"Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever" (1 Chronicles 16:34).

I want to thank God for … (a person, situation, or act of God).

Invite the Holy Spirit to speak.

"But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you" (John 14:26).

Holy Spirit, I invite You to speak to me. I want to hear from you!

Observe what he says.

"For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God" (Romans 8:14)

Sit quietly and listen for the Holy Spirit. Observe what the Lord is saying to you today.

Bring Needs before the Lord.

“Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, ‘Oh, that You would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let Your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.’ And God granted his request” (1 Chronicles 4:10).

Lord, I ask that You … (present a need before God - deliver, protect, heal, help, give wisdom, etc.)

Activity:

Try out the ACTION prayer guide in your own prayer time today. As your quiet time draws to an end, rest in the goodness of the Lord and trust that he has your best interests in mind. Your future is in his hands, and that’s the safest place to be.
