Day 3: Cast Your Burdens

When we hear the word burden, we tend to think of something extremely heavy that weighs us down. When we walk around with the cares of this world on our shoulders, we are burdened in our minds, spirits, emotions, and even our bodies.

Breakups are hard. The longer you remain in that relationship and the more you love that person, the harder it is and the heavier the burden feels. Maybe you’re carrying around the hurt, the fear of the unknown, or the shame of a secret you’re holding inside. Whatever your burden is, you don’t have to carry it. Jesus came to carry our burdens. All we have to do is release the weight of them to Him.

Casting your burdens on the Lord means taking it off your shoulders and putting it on His. As easy as this may sound, it takes much prayer and faith to accomplish it. We say we’re casting our burdens, but we cast them in words and not deeds. At least, that’s what I did for a long time. I would say I’m casting my burdens, but I would still worry and obsess over these burdens. I would still try to control the situation.

When we really cast our burdens on the Lord, we give up trying to fix or control the situation, and we allow God to have His way. Casting your burden on the Lord in this situation means you’re making the decision that you’re no longer going to let this thing plague your mind and emotions. It’s making the decision to walk tall because you no longer have something weighing you down. As you cast one burden at a time and live a more righteous life, God will not allow you to slip, fall, or fail. As the burdens are lifted, you will feel light as you walk.

Declare: I am casting my burden of ____________ on the Lord, and I’m leaving it there. I live in complete peace and joy. I walk with confidence in God. God will not let me slip, fall, or fail.
