Estranged No More

At the fall, in Genesis 3, humanity became estranged from its creator (Genesis 3:23-24). We are all children of Adam and Eve and their proclivity to sin, as well as their status as sinners. has infected us all. We are born into a life and a world that is estranged from God. But. God was not satisfied with this estrangement, so much so that He came in the flesh to reverse the effects of Adam’s curse.

When the prophet Isaiah was anticipating the coming of the Messiah he said:

“Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” Isaiah‬ 7‬:14‬ ESV‬‬

Immanuel means “God With Us.” The coming of the Messiah was about reversing the effects of the curse of the fall; it would deal with our sin, bringing us back into a right relationship with our creator.

In John 3, Jesus says:

“Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God….. Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”
John‬ 3‬:3‬-6‬ ESV

Because we are born of Adam, we are all sinners. Because we are born again in Christ, we are all forgiven; we are justified, and we can once again be in the right relationship with God.

We may not always feel like God is with us; we still live in a world that is full of sin and darkness. Until we rise in glory, on the last day, we still see “as through a glass darkly” (1 Cor 13:12). But despite that, because we have put our faith in Christ, we can trust that He is with us, through the presence of the Holy Spirit and that sin and death will not have the final word. Hallelujah!
