First Date Tips for Christians

DAY 2 OF 5

## Pray Together & Talk about Faith [IMAGE CONTENT] Tip #2: Pray on your first date! It’s never too early to start praying together, whether it’s a quick blessing over a shared meal or before an activity. Prayer is essential if you want God to be the center of any relationship. And while a first date might feel a bit early to start praying together, it doesn’t have to be awkward or a super spiritual moment. It’s a simple way to invite God on your date–if you gather in His name, He’s sure to be present with you! You can also ask your date if there is anything they would like prayer for at the end of the date. It’s a nice way to end your time together, and you could even pray together then and there. While it might not be the most comfortable thing you’ve ever done, inviting God into the relationship from the start is one of the best things you can do. It may also give you a glimpse into your date’s relationship with God. Speaking of which, you should also talk about your faith on a first date. It is never too early to share what faith means to you and hear about your date’s religious views. Having similar beliefs is essential if you are dating with the intention of finding someone to marry. Fortunately, there are some simple questions you can ask that provide the opportunity to bring faith into the conversation. What are your plans this weekend?/What do you typically do on the weekends? These questions are simple but allow you to share that your plans involve attending church. From there, you can ask your date about their experience going to church and dive into more faith-related topics. Additionally, if your date starts talking about partying and getting wasted, it’s a good indication that they’re not fully walking with the Lord. What are you passionate about?/What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? Two more common questions that will give you great insight into the person you’re dating. It also provides an opportunity for you to share what you enjoy and are passionate about, which can involve your relationship with Jesus. What do you feel is your calling in life?/What goals do you have for your future? These questions create space to hear about someone’s hopes and dreams for their life. Then you can share where you feel God is calling you to make an impact. You can also just ask someone if they’re a Christian or to tell you about their relationship with God if you want to cut to the chase. But using more general questions to bring up faith naturally may feel a little less intimidating to both of you. God cares about who you give your heart to, and it’s essential to be “equally yoked.” By praying and talking about your faith on a first date, you’ll have a good idea of whether or not it is someone you could have a future with.
