Take Heart: God Has Answered Your Prayer for Love

DAY 4 OF 7

Alone forever vs. A certain and glorious future

It’s in the small hours that the darkest thoughts creep in, their voices so much louder in the silence of night. We might find ourselves spiralling down the rabbit hole of … “I’m going to be alone forever… how will I survive?”.

We shouldn’t underestimate the power of these earthly anxieties because Jesus felt them too. In verse 9 Paul writes of the way Jesus ‘descended into the earthly regions’. When we read about Jesus’ time on earth we find that he took moments away from the crowds, he prayed through the night and even asked others for prayer. We can feel uniquely close to Christ in these moments of human fragility. But just like Jesus, we won’t be left in this pit of anxiety over our ‘worst fear’. Paul writes that ‘he who descended is the very one who ascended higher than all the heavens, in order to fill the whole universe’. The path Jesus carved as he travelled from earth to God’s right hand is the path we will tread one day.

Friend, however troubling this life might look to you as you spiral into worry about your relationship status, God has promised us a beautiful and glorious future with him. It is a future that will not only surpass the beauty of marriage, but one in which marriage won’t even exist because the true marriage will be realised when the church is wedded to Christ. Take heart that this pain is temporary.

Action point:

  1. Spend time contemplating how amazing heaven will be.
  2. Read a gospel - watch how Jesus manages an anxious human body.
  3. PRAY - thank God for the beautiful future we can look forward to and pray that it would become real to you.
