Day 10: His Story – and Yours
Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked with God (Genesis 6:9 NIV). What will your story be?
What a tribute from God Himself to this loyal and courageous man! One amazing sentence highlights the story of Noah’s 950-year life. What God says here before the Flood is affirmed in Hebrews 11:7 and 2 Peter 2:5, more than 2,000 years later.
And note this illuminating insight into what matters most to God: His tribute does not describe Noah’s accomplishments; He describes his God-honoring character. Hmmm...
At the end of your life, what will people say about you?
God-honoring character is for all Christ-followers, including those you lead and those you disciple. It was the cry of Paul to all believers within reach of his letter:
My children, I am again suffering labor pains for you until Christ is formed in you (Galatians 4:19 HCSB).
Dallas Willard concluded his classic, Renovation of the Heart, by noting that Christlikeness is “humanity as God always intended it.” The scriptures hold this truth to be self-evident. Like Noah, your long-term impact depends on your long-term Christlike character.
What Will Your Story Be?
So now what? Perhaps these concluding questions will actually become new-beginning questions that give focus and direction to the rest of your life as a Christ-follower, leader, and discipler:
- Candidly, are you “mostly in” or “all in” on this mission?
- At the end of your life, what will your story be?
Read about Noah’s consistent Godliness in Genesis 6:5–8:22.
Ponder Galatians 6:9 and Hebrews 12:1–2.
Prayer: Gracious Father, may the story of my life show that what matters most to me is what matters most to You.
