Psalms Streak: A Daily Devotional in the Psalms

DAY 160 OF 161

New Song

“Sing to the Lord a new song, and praise Him in the congregation of believers!” If you have ever been to a TeenStreet large group event, you know that that Throne Room is one of our favourite parts of the day. We gather at the end of the day to worship the Lord through song, dance, art, and prayer. We fill the room with our voices and adoration and picture ourselves before the Father in His Throne Room.

We all have our favourite songs. Whether it is the lyrics, the tempo, or the instruments used to create the melodies, we all have that special song or two that has a way of getting our hearts focused in on God. And the impact seems to magnify when you get to sing "your" song in a group with other believers! If you have time right now, stop and play your song. Put in your earphones or blast it in your room. Remind yourself why this song draws you closer to God.

But sometimes, we need a new song, something that can give us a fresh perspective on the character of God or the majesty of His creation. Sometimes we hear a new song, and our worlds are just blown open all over again. Sometimes we hear new words set to a melody and we feel something we didn't know we needed, or learn something we didn't know was missing. Songs are powerful.

Your challenge today is to find a new song. Reach out to friends or family and ask them what their favourite worship songs are. Listen to at least one new song you have never heard before. Picture yourself in the throne room of God and open your heart to something new.

GO DEEP: What new song did you listen to today? Who else do you know who might need a new song?

BE BOLD: Who needs to hear this? Who could you share it with?
