God is Present

Hands up if you’ve ever taken part in a blindfold obstacle course. It’s a classic youth group game in which once blindfolded, your awareness of your surroundings changes drastically, and it’s difficult to put one foot in front of the other without walking into something. Our awareness, knowledge, or perception of the world around us defines how we will live our lives. Take a minute to consider how your awareness of God affects your day-to-day life. Does it make any difference?

In this Psalm, David is lamenting because those who once followed God have turned away. Foolishly they say “there is no God.” Their lack of awareness of God causes them to lead corrupt lives, do evil, and prey on the poor. Have you ever stopped to think how amazing it is that the Lord of heaven and earth is aware of you? He is looking for a people who seek Him and seek knowledge of Him. God is present in the company of the righteous - those who love Him - and He is a refuge for the poor. Remind yourself to contemplate His presence in your life throughout the day today.
