“What a Mess!”

GOD’S WORD: Serve

READ:
“Why don’t you have your coat on?” asked Ada when the bell rang.
“I’m staying after to clean up the art corner,” said Manny.
“But that’s the teacher’s job,” said Ada, “And I want to play on your climbing wall today.”
“Mrs. Green is always cleaning our mess,” said Manny. “But it will go twice as fast if you help!”

ASK: Have you ever seen something that needed to be done? Like Manny, did you offer to clean up a mess? How can you help someone who serves you?

SAY: Jesus always served others. He washed dirty feet, took care of the sick, and fed the hungry, too. It’s our job to take care of each other, too. When we serve others, we are really serving God. We don’t serve because we have to, but because we love God. Because Jesus serves us!

PRAY: Dear God, thank you for showing me how Jesus served. I want to serve like Jesus, even if it’s a yucky job or I want to do something else. I love you. Amen.

ADA’S CHOICE:
“All right,” said Ada and took off her coat. “I’ll help.”
“Thanks so much!” said Mrs. Green. “That’s very nice of you.”
“You’re welcome!” said Manny. “You always clean for us.”
The next morning, Ada and Manny each found a sticker on their desks. It read: #1 SERVANT
“Today,” said Mrs. Green, “our #1 servants get to choose the art project.”
Ada looked at Manny and giggled, “How about something not messy?”

The Grasp family reading plan guides family interaction as it helps children aged preschool-elementary to better grasp what God’s words mean for them. Using the acronym GRASP (God’s Word. Read. Ask. Say. Pray), parents will discover the simplicity of teaching God’s Word. Before meals, school, or bed, even a few minutes will prove powerful as families learn with one another through the adventures of Manny and Ada.
