DAY 18 OF 116

[IMAGE CONTENT] 2CHRONICLES 14-15: Yesterday in 2nd Chronicles we heard the conclusion of Rehoboam’s reign, and the writer classed Rehoboam as a wicked king. Then his son, King Abijah gave a truly amazing speech before his epic victory over Israel. PROVERBS 30a: Today I chose to highlight two verses from Proverbs 30: Pro. 30:5 [NLT Every word of God proves true. He is a shield to all who come to him for protection. //GNT “ God keeps every promise he makes. He is like a shield for all who seek his protection. ] 6 If you claim that he said something that he never said, he will reprimand you and show that you are a liar.” MATTHEW 12b: We return to Matthew chapter 12 today. How ironic it is that the religious leaders would make a problem about picking and eating a few heads of wheat on the Sabbath, or healing a man with just a word and no actions, then on the Sabbath they went out and plotted to kill Jesus. That is the kind of work that God forbids— not just on the Sabbath but any day of the week! Note that this wasn’t casual opposition. Let’s pray. Our heavenly Father, we thank You that Jesus is the Lord of the Sabbath. And He said that Something greater than the Temple was present among them. That of course was Himself. For the second time in this Gospel, He reminded them of Hosea’s words, “It is kindness that I want, not animal sacrifices.” Thank you that the Lord Jesus, the Son of Man, perfectly fulfilled all the Laws of Moses for us— including the Sabbath laws, and He is our best model for how to be kind. Oh, heavenly Father, show mercy to us, and Lord Jesus, please forgive us! Now that You have died on the cross in order to establish the New Covenant, we miserably we fail as your followers if we do not imitate the way You showed kindness.
