DAY 15: COMMISSIONED FOR MORE
Key verse: The descendants of Joseph came to Joshua and asked, “Why have you given us only one portion of land as our homeland when the Lord has blessed us with so many people?” - Joshua 17:14
We serve a God who can do abundantly above all we can ask or think. Yet, we can often approach God with modest requests, shaped by our own perceptions of who we are and how generous we believe God might be.
In today’s text, we read that the tribes of Ephraim and Manasseh came to Joshua and asked for more land. It’s not hard to imagine the other tribes considering them selfish or greedy for doing so. But that did not stop Ephraim or Manasseh from asking for more. And Joshua granted them their request. We should likewise be unafraid or unashamed to ask God for more.
Years ago, a particular Connect Group was preparing for a Christmas outreach. They enlarged their vision and believed for at least 50 visitors. They prayed, believed, and prepared wholeheartedly. They put up posters and were diligent in inviting their neighbours and friends. On the day of the event, God exceeded their expectations when 69 visitors showed up! They had a total of 87 people at the outreach. God exceeded their expectations and requests!
Similarly, when those 2 tribes asked Joshua for more land, he didn’t downsize their request. Instead, he challenged them to go out and possess the land despite the enemies and iron chariots, reminding them of God’s power.
In our own lives, are there things that we are believing for that are so big that we are afraid to ask God? Let us ask today without fear or reservation because God can do exceedingly, abundantly above all we can ask or think.
Response
Are there areas in your life or ministry where you’ve been hesitant to ask God for big things? What would “asking big” look like in these areas?

In this 21-day devotional, Commissioned, we’ll explore how God called Joshua to lead His people into the Promised Land—and how He’s calling each of us to step into our own mission. Just like Joshua, we are commissioned by God to advance His purposes, no matter where we are. Over these next 21 days, you’ll be challenged to walk in faith, courage, and obedience, knowing that God goes before you, equips you, and strengthens you for every battle ahead. Prepare to reflect on your calling and the impact God wants to make through your life.
