When I'm Afraid

Lord,

You know there are times when my mind races with fearful possibilities. I wonder about my husband’s safety, whether our marriage can survive this time apart, or if we’ll have enough money at the end of the month. My imagination gains ground, tossing around bad outcomes and my insides knot. The scenarios play on an endless reel, toying with my sanity. Why am I placing my trust in these unlikely outcomes when my true deliverance is found in You?

Deliver me, Lord, from fear and the stories it authors. Sweep aside these pesky thoughts that lead to worthless or dangerous paths. Dismantle the lies with Your perfect love (1 John 4:18). Regardless of what I face, I desire to stand firm with courage and a mind that replays how all things are possible with You (Matthew 19:26). Cause me to focus on what’s true, admirable, and praiseworthy (Philippians 4:8), finding delight there. If fear spouts its threats again and I’m tempted to believe the lies, draw me with truth. Pull me close and wrap me in Your peace, for You alone are my deliverer.
