Quality #1

Now that we know what destiny is - let’s explore the 5 Qualities of a Woman of Destiny. We will glean and grow as we examine the life and qualities of Mary, the mother of Jesus, as found in Luke 1:26-56. She was truly a Woman of Destiny. This extraordinary God-appointed woman embraced her destiny and changed the course of history for all mankind.

As I began to study her story, five qualities she possessed emerged that solidified her status as a bona fide Woman of Destiny. The first quality is found in Luke 1:30: “And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favor with God.”

The first quality of a Woman of Destiny is: She fears not.

All of us have experienced fear at some point in our lives. As I examined the concept of fear, I realized there are several types, some of which are beneficial and others of which are detrimental.

The first type of fear is reverential fear, which speaks of reverence and respect and is described in Proverbs 1:7, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge…” Reverential fear is beneficial because it humbles the soul and gets God’s attention.

The second type of fear I want us to examine is the kind that causes dread. The enemy uses this kind of fear to keep us from reaching our destiny because it leaves us paralyzed, powerless, and ineffective. Satan frequently uses derivatives of this type of fear (fear of man, fear of rejection, fear of success, etc.) to cause us to abort our destiny.

God knew that fear would be a big obstacle to us when we pursue our destiny. Throughout scripture, whenever God called someone to a specific purpose, He would say to them, “Fear not” or “Don’t be afraid.” One biblical scholar noted that the scriptures contain 80 occurrences of “Fear not.”

Dear sister, as a Woman of Destiny, you must purpose in your heart you will not allow fear to rule you. Mary wasn’t moved by her circumstances or the opinion of a man. She refused to fear and doubt the Word the Lord gave her. Mary was strong in faith and believed in her God. She knew He would fulfill His destiny for her life and did not fear.

Meditation For Activation

Dear sister, take some time to meditate upon the questions below, responding quietly within yourself or in a journal.

How has fear affected your life?

What do you stand to gain by walking in fear?

What do you stand to gain by walking in faith?
