Abiding in Christഉദാഹരണം
Rom 5:8-10
Jesus isn’t on the cross anymore!
Sometimes we talk to Jesus like He is still hanging on the cross. Yes, we need to remember the sacrifice Jesus paid for us on the cross (communion for example), however, Jesus isn’t there anymore - He is alive!
Not only is He not there, but dying on the cross isn’t the only thing He offers us!
Understanding the Trinity is tricky business (and we’re not going to resolve that here), but one particular mistake we make is thinking that “Jesus did His part on the cross”.
“For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!”
Ro 5:10
Jesus didn’t just die for you - He lived for you.
In fact, He is still living for you.
Yes, it was the death of Jesus that justified us (paying the full price in our place), but it is the life of Jesus, today, that saves us. Jesus’ part to play wasn’t just the cross … that was just the beginning. He is alive today, continuing to save us with His life.
Still saving us? Are we not fully saved?
In the eyes of the Father, we are 100% justified, made righteous by the precious blood of Jesus. There is, however, the ongoing transformation (saving) of our hearts and lives by Jesus.
This kind of saving is a daily rescue, as though Jesus is saving us from ourselves.
We cannot experience this until we have put our trust in Jesus …
“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Ro 5:8
… but once we’ve received the free gift of grace at the cross, we embark on a new adventure of Jesus’ “saving life”.
Are you experiencing this daily “saving” by the living Jesus?
Prayer
Lord, thank you for dying for me on the cross. Thank you for taking my place in death. But I also want to thank you for taking my place in life. Though I know I am forgiven, there are still parts of my life that don’t look like you.
Please save me from myself, as I want to live a new life …I want to live your life.
Amen
