Jesus Prays for All Believers
John 17:20-24: “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one—I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. “Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world.”
Jesus cared deeply about everyone He met. Let us join Him in praying for all those who God sends our way, and those He puts into our minds.
Paul often asked for prayer as shown in these scriptures; 2 Thessalonians 3:1: “pray for us that the message of the Lord may spread rapidly and be honored, just as it was with you.”
Ephesians 6:19: “Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel.”
In 1 Timothy 2:1-3 he urged us to pray for everyone, and those in authority over us: “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior.”
Without prayer, our Christian lives are just a façade, without any life; but when we communicate regularly with the living God and let His life flow through us – the world around us comes alive. He is calling new believers and wants us to be one as our triune God is one, and that through our unity – the world will believe. Jesus wants us to be with Him, and to see His glory; the glory He has enjoyed throughout eternity. There is nothing selfish in Jesus’ prayers. He loves us more than we can imagine and wants nothing more than the privilege of lavishing that love on us forever!
Reflection: Is the desire for powerful prayer welling up in our hearts? Are we ready to stand alongside our blessed Savior in intercession that will wake up lukewarm believers, awaken the world to who He is, and bring revival to His Church?
Thank you for completing this plan. We encourage you to make a daily commitment to spending time in prayer with our indescribable Lord. Read His Word, and join us to learn more about prayer by visiting our articles on this topic.

Isn’t it fascinating that Jesus’ disciples didn’t ask Jesus to teach them how to lead or preach or teach or administrate, although He certainly was the expert? In Luke 11:1, they said, “Teach us to pray.” They had seen Him praying more than anything else. How can we learn from Jesus’ priority of prayer?
