Observe & Interpret

1. Read: Revelation 8.1-6. Summarize this passage in your own words.

2. Why does God’s throne room fall silent at the beginning of this chapter? What does this tell us about God’s attitude towards the coming trumpet judgments? (also read: Revelation 3.19)

3. Read: Revelation 8.7-13. How does God’s judgment affect the natural world? What parallels exist between this demonstration of judgment and God’s judgment against Egypt in the time of Moses? (also read: Exodus 7.19-21, 10.21-23)

4. What is significant about the message God sends through the eagle at the end of this passage? What does this tell us about God’s attitude towards humanity even in their sin? (also read: Ezekiel 33.10-11)

5. Read: Revelation 9.20-21. How does God’s judgment affect fallen humanity? What does this tell us about our natural attitude towards God and His invitation to repentance? (also read: Romans 5.12-17)

Apply

1. What practical steps can we take to grow in prayer for the lost? Who can hold you accountable to pray that God would “open the door” for Gospel conversations?

2. Prayerfully determine the main biblical truth or principle that God revealed to you during your study. A few questions to ask are: Is there a promise for me to claim? Is there a truth for me to believe? Is there a command for me to obey?

3. Memorize: Isaiah 46.9-10. "Remember what I accomplished in antiquity. Truly I am God, I have no peer; I am God, and there is none like me, who announces the end from the beginning and reveals beforehand what has not yet occurred; who says, ‘My plan will be realized, I will accomplish what I desire;’"

Alpha & Omega

The Revelation of Jesus Christ is a book about what will happen in the future; but perhaps more importantly, it’s a book about who controls the future. More than sixty years after Jesus rose from the dead, He appears once again to His disciple John to tell him about the things to come. John sees Jesus in a whole new way: He is now risen, glorified, and clearly in charge of the universe. Jesus is Lord of everyone, everywhere, forever. The question for you and me is whether we will trust Him with our lives, believing that He holds both the present and the future in His all-powerful and loving hands.
