Enforcing You: Standing on the Promises of God

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” Eph. 2:10

The Greek word for workmanship is the word, “poiema”. The word means “that which has been made, a work, or the works of God as creator.” While this speaks a lot about our design, I would also point out that this Greek word is where the English word “poem” is derived from.

I majored in English Literature in college and took many poetry courses. We were often asked to write about what we felt the poet was trying to communicate. Sometimes the message was clear, and sometimes it was confusing. Nonetheless, we knew that deep within the lines of that poem, we would discover something about the poet. Ultimately, we weren’t studying the poems; we were studying the poets.

This resonates in my soul as I consider my life a poem written by God, the Master Poet. My life is not without purpose, and neither is yours. Instead, our days have been ordained for us to speak a message for God, line by line. Like a poet, God has something He wants to communicate, and He does so through the lives of His children. In other words, we are His “poiema,” His poem. Ultimately, our lives are to point people back to the Master Poet.

Let’s be honest; if I didn’t like a particular poem, I had no desire to read more written by that poet. This leads me to ponder, does my life speak a message that draws others to “read more?” Do I present a message that would draw others to want to know my Master Poet? What about you? Do others see the love of God in your life? Are they drawn to God by the way you live your life? I think it is important that you recognize the value of your days and the message that you carry.

Let’s say, “God, I agree that my life has been written by Your hand and that my days have significant meaning. Today, I will reflect Your heart, and I will speak Your message through how I live each moment. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
