Walking Through Fireഉദാഹരണം
Day 5: Even If
What if the worst happens? What will I do then? Those are the questions that all of us have asked at one time or another. For me, those questions flooded my thoughts after my post-polio diagnosis. All the potential what-ifs that could happen as my story unfolded kept me up at night, fearful and wondering what if the worst was yet to come.
As I scoured Scripture for help, I realized that I was asking the wrong question. The better question that begged my response was even if? Even if my nightmares came true, would I still worship the Lord? Even if my fears materialized, would the Lord be enough? Even if the worst happened, would the Lord take care of me? Even if?
That question has been answered throughout the ages by people in the Bible. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego knew their deliverance was not guaranteed yet they confidently exclaimed, “If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver from Your Majesty’s hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods” (Daniel 3:17-18).
Even if the worst happens, God’s grace is sufficient. The power and freedom that comes from changing our what-ifs into even if is immeasurable. Trading our irrational fears of an uncertain future for the loving assurance of an unchanging God teaches us that no matter what, God will carry us. Even if.
Ask:
Are there any “what-if’s” that you sense God inviting you to exchange for an even if right now?
Pray:
Lord, I am carrying so many what-ifs when it comes to my future. Help me to lay those down and trust you even if the worst happens. Help me to exchange my fears for the assurance that no matter what, you are with me.
