Who Is Jesus?

It is that magical time of year again. Family and Friends gather round a roaring fire, sing carols, drink eggnog, and admire the twinkling lights that adorn the freshly cut Christmas tree. As the temperature drops and the days get shorter we bundle up and set out for the local shopping mall to find that perfect gift. We no doubt spend countless hours, and dollars, during the Christmas season. While all of the above makes for a joyous season, except for the countless dollars spent, are we putting all of our energy into the wrong things this time of year?

Have you stopped to question why we celebrate Christmas? Where did Christmas begin? Is it really a pagan festival that Christians mistakenly take part in every year? Over the next several days together we will answer these questions, and more.

Before we understand the origin of Christmas, we need to first understand WHOM it is that we celebrate on Christmas.

You will see signs this year that say, “Jesus is the Reason for the Season”. But who is Jesus? Roughly 700 years before the birth of Jesus Isaiah prophesied about a child to be born of a virgin. Is Jesus the fulfillment of that prophecy, and hundreds of others from the Old Testament? Is Jesus who He says He is? Or was He just a good moral teacher? We can’t know how to celebrate if we don’t know whom to celebrate.

Reflection

Do you know the Jesus of the Bible? Have you experienced Him in your life? Don’t let this year pass without learning more about who Jesus is and what He has done for you. While we celebrate His birth at Christmas, we must also remember His death and resurrection as well. Christ died so that you could be saved. Pray for Jesus to reveal Himself to you this Christmas season.
