Trusting Jesus In The Stormഉദാഹരണം
Trust in His Power
As the storm rages in Mark 4, Jesus is woken by his disciples and instantly jumps into action. One minute he’s a sleepy man; the next minute he is revealed as the master of creation.
Both his humanity and deity are revealed to the disciples in a few moments.
Psalm 46:10 says “Be still and know that I am God”, and here in our passage we see the God of the psalmist, roaring into life in a small boat on the sea of Galilee, literally commanding the sea to “Be still”.
The word that Jesus uses in his command is the root of the English word “serene” meaning free of storms or disturbance. Marked by utter calm.
Jesus commands peace, and the chaos is transformed into calm.
Christ’s power brings peace.
In Isaiah we read of Jesus: “… he will be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
The Prince of Peace commanded peace to the storm, and everything changed.
Interestingly, we read in verse 36 of Mark 4 that “there were also other boats with him.” The disciples were the ones who called on Jesus to help – but what Jesus did affected those in other boats too.
What Jesus does in us should affect the people around us.
When the Prince of Peace gives us the gift of peace – that gift will affect those around us.
At this present time, the Coronavirus pandemic is creating fear and anxiety in the hearts of many, but we are the followers of Jesus; the ones who have been given his beautiful gift of peace.
This is the time when we must carry that peace to the “other boats” around us.
PAUSE AND PRAY
“Lord, you are the peace in this storm. Today, help me to be a carrier of your peace, and to transform the atmosphere for those around me. You are Lord of all, Prince of Peace. I seek your transforming power today.”
