An Interview With God

God is a Gentleman. He always has been. He has never forced anyone into complying with His will. From Adam and Eve throughout the generations, He has offered free choice out of His amazing love. However, His desire has always been the same: that we willingly choose Him over anyone or anything else.

Jesus’ example of prayer in Matthew 6 starts off with acknowledging God as Father—One who wants the Kingdom of Heaven to replace the stuff of Earth. He wants us to choose life over death.  Forgiveness over bitterness. Blessing over curse. Our wills lining up with His as we walk through life in a relationship with Him.

In the Garden of Gethsemane just before His arrest, trial, and crucifixion, having full knowledge of what was about to take place, God allowed Jesus free will too. But in the struggle of being one hundred percent man and one hundred percent God, Christ chose His Father’s will. He showed us that, no matter the circumstance or the personal cost, we have the ability through His Spirit to choose God any and every time.

Watch today’s clip of Paul Asher asking God about the dilemma of free will versus His will.

In the Garden of Eden, Adam faced the choice of stepping in between his bride, Eve, and the enemy of God to intervene and protect. He could have chosen his Father’s will over the temptation of Satan. But Adam stood still and chose complacency, thereby allowing sin to take over.

In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus faced the same enemy and the same choice. But He agreed with His Father to intervene and protect. He chose God over the voice of the enemy, surrendering His own will. He stood strong and chose compliance, thereby allowing redemption to reign. Our redemption.

Every day, we are given the choice to choose our way or God’s. Christ’s victory allows us the opportunity to say no to sin and our own flesh. We can take His path and not the path of Adam. Every moment, every decision can be affected by choosing God’s will to be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Why do you suppose we so often focus on our selfish choice to sin rather than the alternative that Jesus offers to say no? How does daily surrender to Christ affect our ability to live in victory over our own flesh?

An Interview With God

In this broken world, God invites us into a relationship with Him through Jesus Christ. His presence comes when we open our hearts. Inspired by the film An Interview With God, this five-day biblical study encourages us to listen to God’s voice in an on-going relationship with Him as both a Father and Friend.
