DAY 39 OF 40

Read Matthew 25:14-30

Jesus tells an intense story about how the status quo of God changes how we use the stuff of our lives in the Book of Matthew. We all have been given a resource of talent/time/treasure.

The amounts will be different. Some people have many talents, while others only have a few. Some people have storehouses full, and others struggle.

That doesn’t seem to matter to God; He wants your heart to give you what you have. But the differences in resources do distract us. Regardless of the amounts, the expectation is that we invest what we have with the interest of the Lord in mind, not just our own.

Looking at the 3rd guy in our story above reveals a lot about us. The wicked man blames his master’s expectations for his lack of productivity. He blames his master for the life he chose to live while he was gone.

Every one of us could find someone we could blame for our underachieving.

There is actual ‘blame’ to be assigned - victimization, neglect, and bigotry.

However, just because it may not be your fault doesn’t mean it isn’t your responsibility.

His perception of his master is wrong. This master trusted his servant. This master believed in his servant. His master expected investment. The other men understood that their possessions were for their master’s investment. Even though they are different in time, talent, and treasure, they both operated with an ‘Of their Master’ mentality.

God wants us to invest the leverages and resources of our lives with Heaven in mind.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

  1. What talent(s) do you have? How can you use this resource to love others and glorify God? This will require sacrifice.
  2. What kind of time do you have? How can you use this resource to love others and glorify God? This will require sacrifice.
  3. What kind of treasures do you have? How can you use this resource to love others and glorify God? This will require sacrifice.

About this Plan

Uncommon

The purpose of this devotional is to take a deeper look into the "uncommon" living for those of us walking with Jesus. We are declared holy through Christ, so how do we walk in that holiness? How can we be set apart and walk out our holiness?
