Uncommon

DAY 35 OF 40

“Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval.” John 6:27

When our focus and motives are from God, it changes everything:

1. The quality of my work.

2. The environment of the work.

3. The purpose of the work.

During my time in the Navy, I discovered the purpose of my work - to serve the Lord and to impact the lives of the people around me. As soon as I understood that, everything at work changed for me. My Navy buddies even signed my dixie cap with encouraging words about how I impacted them. Everything changed, all because my status quo changed.

Work becomes an expression of worship. Work becomes a way of revealing God’s love. Work becomes a place of divine reward. So if you think your job sucks, don’t quit it yet. The problem may be you...and you don’t want to mess up your next job. Stupid jobs can be transcended. The quality of your work reflects the worship of your heart.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

  1. What is your purpose of work at this moment? Salary? Benefits?
  2. Why would the purpose of your work (apart from Christ) be unwise?
  3. How would you affect your work environment if you worked only as unto the Lord?

About this Plan

Uncommon

The purpose of this devotional is to take a deeper look into the "uncommon" living for those of us walking with Jesus. We are declared holy through Christ, so how do we walk in that holiness? How can we be set apart and walk out our holiness?
