Uncommon

DAY 33 OF 40

“The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied.” Proverbs 13:4 ESV

In the world, some people have an opportunity to do what they are passionate about. Most people do not have that privilege or luxury.

Having a job you’re passionate about is fun and exciting. But there is a dark side to this ideology:

  1. I put my hopes of fulfillment in my career.
  2. I don’t experience personal joy until I experience working somewhere I love.
  3. I don’t learn the inner strength of contentment in an environment I am not passionate about.

Living a life of God brings transcendent value to a “ho-hum” job. Changing your status quo takes a position that may serve a transitory function and adds a quality of God to it. Regardless of what you do or who you work for, you can live out the new status quo. But often, we will complain and be angry because we don’t think we have the right job or work with the right people. We're called to so much in our work environment. It’s a potential mention field for the gospel, and so often, we squander the opportunity!

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

  1. Are you putting your hopes in your job?
  2. Are you waiting around to have a fulfillment of joy in your workplace?
  3. Are you learning contentment where you are and seeking to understand why God has you there?
