The Life of David

DAY 20 OF 28

Day 20: 2 Sam. 9-11 x Boaz Vazquez, Content Creator at UPPERROOM

Growing up, I found it hard to read the Old Testament, and I relied on Christian ‘Kid Shows' like "Veggie Tales" to try and understand the storyline. Although it might seem like a random story in a vast number of books, these books are of utmost importance to frame our faith today. Try to read not with your head, but with your heart. It's easier said than done, but you have a friend and helper inside you. Call to Him.

In these three chapters, let's focus on kindness and courage. While kindness might sound reassuring in theory, it's seldom seen in action, and courage, although comprehended in theory, is often challenging to put into practice.

2 Samuel 9:9 says, "Don't be afraid," David said to him, "For I will surely show you kindness for the sake of your father, Jonathan. I will restore to you all the land that belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you will always eat at my table."

Reading through 2 Samuel, we see that Mephibosheth needed courage and didn't deserve kindness. Mephibosheth thought he would be killed, but instead, David showed him kindness. David blessed him for the sake of someone else. He was showing the kindness of God to someone who felt afraid and undeserving of kindness. That is love.

I pray the Holy Spirit imparts wisdom and grace for these passages to make sense–and an impact. Where can you instill courage and bestow kindness on someone? Before you begin reading, pray. Don't treat this Bible plan as a duty. It is your inheritance–promises that are true today.

Love you.

About this Plan

The Life of David

“The Life of David” is an in-depth study through 1-2 Samuel. Together, we will look at how David stewarded his heart through the complexities and challenges he faced. This month-long study will bring biblical context to why we do what we do as a community: ministering to the Lord and establishing a resting place for Him.
