The Life of David

DAY 22 OF 28

Day 22: 2 Sam. 14 x Elyssa Smith, Levite at UPPERROOM

One of the most fascinating things about David is how he never fought to become or stay king. He understood something about God that gave him the profound ability to not fight for his position when it was threatened. It is almost as if David rented the palace with no intention to be the owner.

He did not become entitled to what God said he would do with his life, but remained in a continual place of surrender. This was the posture that, at any moment, David would gladly return to the sheep and the field if God asked. I wonder how free it feels to no longer need to defend ourselves, our positions or our titles?

Today, as you read, ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any area in your life where you feel scared of losing your position. Ask Jesus to reveal how He sees you and write it down. Remember that Jesus has prepared a place at the table with your name on it, and you are seated in heavenly places as a true child of God. There is an invitation to see our true identity: found only in the conviction of where and who we belong to.

About this Plan

The Life of David

“The Life of David” is an in-depth study through 1-2 Samuel. Together, we will look at how David stewarded his heart through the complexities and challenges he faced. This month-long study will bring biblical context to why we do what we do as a community: ministering to the Lord and establishing a resting place for Him.
