Daily Prayers for Grieving Hearts: A 21-Day Plan for Comfort on the Road to Recovery

DAY 10 OF 21

HE WILL RESTORE

The Lord says, “I will give you back what you lost to the swarming locusts, the hopping locusts, the stripping locusts, and the cutting locusts.” JOEL 2:25 NLT

When conditions are right, locusts (or grasshoppers) will band together and fly in swarms that completely decimate all vegetation in their path. The loss can be quick and vast, and unless witnessed with your own eyes, the destruction is almost inconceivable. One might think that the loss is so immense it is beyond repair, but then again, our God is so immense nothing is beyond His reach or ability. So how have the locusts swarmed through your life? Has long-term illness eaten years? Have financial crises eaten your dreams? Has rejection eaten the beats of your heart? Has your will to live been swallowed up by the loss of a loved one? The Lord says, “I will give you back what you lost.” In His perfect time and in His perfect way, He is all about keeping His promises, including this one.

Lord, the hole in my heart is great, and my belief in restoration and repair is but a thread. I don’t feel inspired to believe this promise, yet I will choose this day to embrace it as Your personal word to me. I hold on to what I know to be true about You, which is that Your Word is truth, that You love me, and that You are with me now. Thank You, Lord, for Your grace and mercy that fills my being as I walk with You through another day.

AMEN.

About this Plan

Daily Prayers for Grieving Hearts: A 21-Day Plan for Comfort on the Road to Recovery

Grief has many phases, and some phases make it difficult for us to find the words or motivation to pray. In the moments when we need God the most but can’t seem to connect with Him, this 21-day reading plan can give us language to bridge the gap. It helps you remember that God is close to the brokenhearted, deeply attentive to your pain, and capable of healing and restoring all of us. Each day, read a short message about a promise from God, find a corresponding Scripture, and let the daily prayer guide your time with the Lord.
