Royals Part III: Into Exile

DAY 21 OF 21

The True King

Almost 600 years after the last king of Israel, the true King finally arrives in Jerusalem. Hopefully, after the time we’ve spent looking at all of these human kings, you have a greater appreciation for just how much Jesus stands apart from all of them.

Put yourself in the shoes of every Jew living in the time of Jesus. For almost 600 years your people have been waiting for the Messiah, God’s chosen king, to come and save them from whichever nation was oppressing them at the time. Your only other examples of kings are those we have been reading about for the last 9 weeks.

How do you think you would have understood Jesus when he asked to be glorified? What would you have expected him to do? I would guess that dying on the cross would be close to being the last thing anyone was expecting. But this is what sets Jesus apart from every other human who’s ever walked the Earth. His glory is not established by power or by force, but in submission and surrender. The True King died for His people because He understood true love is not about what you get from someone, but what you lay down for them. Hallelujah, praise the Lord, Jesus Christ, our King.

Thought Point

How does it feel reading about Jesus after all these other kings? How do these kings help us understand Jesus better?

Prayer Point

Thank God for His sacrifice, laying down His Son, so we could be brought into His Holy Place.
