Royals Part III: Into Exile

DAY 19 OF 21

Exiled

The moment finally comes, the moment that was being held off and held off by brief moments of repentance: God’s judgement falls on Jerusalem. If you’ve been an immigrant or a refugee, you can empathise with Judah as they are removed from their homeland.

They might have been living in another nation but their hearts would have remained in Judah. There is a German word, Sehnsucht, often used to express this kind of longing. It describes a yearning, desire, or craving for something unattainable. Whether we’re immigrants or not we all experience some kind of intangible longing for something more, something deeper.

We feel this way because our true home, our Jerusalem, is in God’s presence. He is the one who meets our every need. In this life, we never fully attain that but one day, just as Cyrus declared he would rebuild the temple, God has declared that we will rebuild each of us and nothing will stand between Him and us.

Thought Point

Do you yearn for a deeper closeness with God?

Prayer Point

Spend time drawing near to God. Ask Him to repair your broken heart.
