Royals Part III: Into Exile

DAY 16 OF 21

The Covenant

I remember as a young kid going up the front of church having just prayed the “Sinner’s Prayer”. I responded because the preacher had said if you haven’t given your life to Jesus you’re going to hell. I don’t want to critique his method but my response was not truly an agreement to enter into a covenant relationship with God. It was a request for a free ticket into heaven.

All of the kings before Josiah, even the good ones, their relationship with God was all about being saved. They appealed to God’s mercy so He would protect them from their enemies. While that worked (and God saved them time and time again), it was so much less than what God desired for their covenant relationship.

God’s greatest desire is that we turn to Him with all of our heart, soul and strength. When we do this God doesn’t just save us- He takes our lives to a whole new level. It wasn’t until a few years after praying that prayer, that I truly came to know my Heavenly Father and experience His love. After I had met Him, the only response I could have was to offer Him my heart, soul and strength.

Thought Point

Do you have a relationship with God that is life-giving and strengthens you?

Prayer Point

Come before God with your heart, soul and strength and once again offer it to Him.
