Awake Sydneyಮಾದರಿ
What will our generation be remembered for?
When it comes to the younger generations there tends to be two distinct narratives:
1. That young people are lazy and undisciplined
2. That young people are the future and our hope.
I have a friend that loves to say, “Youth, never underestimate their potential!” In many ways this is the heart and motivation behind the Awake Sydney Prayer Summit that ran on March 3rd and the resulting movement of faith, hope, prayer and love.
This devotion is designed to encourage us all in our faith and witness to our city, but it is also designed to be an opportunity for us to invest back into our city. It is comprised of daily devotionals from the heads of the various youth departments of Sydney’s ten largest denominations; with a few other key organisations included. The idea behind this devotional and the Awake Sydney movement is to believe that the best is truly yet to come for the church in this city, state and nation and that through joint prayer, this best can be seen and known.
The Bible and Christian history teach us that unified prayer has never failed before and will not fail the Church of today (Acts 1:14; 2:1). We are not content to allow an entire generation to pass by the Cross in misunderstanding. The joint heartfelt desire of the leaders, who have contributed to this devotional, is for our culture to understand on a citywide scale, the true heart and message of both Jesus Christ and His followers. A ‘reformation’ within our city of what Christianity actually is, namely: a force of love and not hate, an institution that protects and not harms, that is essential to daily life and spirituality.
I pray that when the history books are closed on this generation of the Church, in this city, that a record exists of a group of people who attempted great things for God and expected great things from Him.
Can I encourage you to invest into your life, as well as this city by joining with key young leaders of the Church of Jesus Christ in Sydney and journeying through this devotional.
