DAY 6 OF 14

Signs

How important are they?

Road signs are man made structures that warn of hazards, falling rocks and windy roads up ahead. They inform us how fast to take corners and when to turn and when we should not. Like guardrails they protect us from possible danger.

Last week, whilst driving around Sydney, I didn’t follow one of those 'No turning between the hours of 6:00am and 9:00am’ signs. Just as I turned, I saw the sign but it was too late. I went around the corner and a police officer waved at me - not to say hello, but to pull me over. He proceeded to ask for my license, take a photo of my registration plate and told me I would be getting an infringement notice in the mail. A two hundred and fifty seven dollar fine later and the loss of 2 demerit points made it an expensive morning. I was not a happy camper.

This experience got me thinking, what signs do we ignore in our spiritual, physical, mental, and emotional lives? The Bible is full of these different signs. I love Proverbs because it gives so many good signs that can point the way and help us to navigate life. For example, consider the above proverbs.

I wish I had taken notice of the sign that morning.

The challenge for us is to obey the signs that we read in Scripture that are designed to protect us from the hazards of life and warn us of possible dangers. They may just save you time, embarrassment, trouble and fines!

Prayer: Dear God, thank you for Scripture that shows us how to live in today’s world. Give us courage and wisdom to follow the signs and promises in your Word. Would you use us to grow disciples who continue to point the way for others. This is our prayer in Jesus Name. Amen.
