Zooming Out

As we trust God, it’s always good to ask for his help and to keep a prayerful ear open to his still, small voice. We never know just how he will guide us—whether by a word of knowledge, a vision in a dream, or a verse that the Holy Spirit brings to our minds. However he communicates with us, I find that it’s often akin to zooming out from a photo to get an eagle-eye view of my situation.

Imagine you’re standing in the lobby on the ground floor of a fancy hotel that you’re staying at in the city. You might look out the window and see cars speeding by and tumbleweed-like trash blowing in the streets. But if you take the elevator and look out from the penthouse suite on the top floor, everything will appear totally different. You’ll see the stunning city skyline. You’ll revel in the glorious sunset.

Prayer gives us this type of panorama. Instead of seeing everything in the natural and interpreting life’s events through a human perspective, we can filter our experiences through a heavenly perspective and maintain hope no matter the view.

Regardless of how things may look, we can trust that God sees the big picture. He has seen it from the beginning, and he already sees the end. And from our prayer perspective, we will see more with his wisdom than we otherwise would. Let’s make sure we run with the right perspective—a heavenly point of view.

Father, I come to you again to experience the divine panorama that prayer reveals. Give me glimpses of your bird’s-eye view of my life. Speak to me with big-picture visions and words of wisdom to guide me through all life’s challenges. Fill me with your unspeakable joy again and again as I live in obedience to your good plan. Amen.
