Hope

“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful” (Hebrews 10:23).

God has made many promises in the Bible. Among other things, He promises that everyone who believes in Him will live with Him forever. When we trust in this, it gives us hope for the future. That hope then gives us courage and perseverance to endure, even in difficult times. After all, we know that the Lord Jesus will create a new world where there is no more sorrow and pain, but only joy. That promise brings light in the dark.

A song by Stuart Townend and Mark Edwards expresses this beautifully:

There is a hope that stands the test of time,
That lifts my eyes beyond the beckoning grave,
To see the matchless beauty of a day divine
When I behold His face!
When sufferings cease and sorrows die,
And every longing satisfied.
Then joy unspeakable will flood my soul,
For I am truly home.

This hope also protects us from wrong thoughts or despondency. When we are full of the hope of God's new world, we no longer need to seek our happiness in transient, uncertain things like wealth, power, or a comfortable life. Those ultimately cannot make us truly happy. God can because He is faithful and omnipotent. He will actually do what He has promised.
