Grace of God: 5-Day Devotional Plan

DAY 2 OF 5

No matter where you find yourself today, whether spiritually seeking, searching, or struggling, God’s grace greets you even before you open your eyes. In fact, every person is greeted with the beauty of a loving God who is so saturated with grace that it spills out into His creation and to His created.

Common grace is something that every person experiences every day. It’s a term that encompasses the everyday blessings we often overlook: the sun rising each morning, the refreshing rain that cleanses and nourishes the earth, the food on our tables, and even the very next breath we take. All of these are expressions of God’s undeserved goodness. It’s an invitation to taste and experience God’s goodness before we are expected to surrender to his extended grace of salvation.

From this foundation, we begin to understand who God is and how patient He really is. When God shines His common grace on all people, His heart remains open to the outcast, the wayward, and the wandering soul. Our fears, insecurities, or brokenness don’t take Him by surprise or push Him away. Instead, they become an opportunity for God to reveal His love and faithfulness.

The problem many of us have with common grace is that we tend to take it for granted.

We wake up expecting the sun to rise, the rain to fall, and life to continue as usual. But what if we saw each day as an invitation? An invitation to discover more about the One who sustains us and weaves His grace into every fabric of our existence.

Recognize the sunrise as a reminder of God’s faithfulness. Savor and taste food as a gift given from his hand. Breathe deeply each breath of grace with a renewed sense of His goodness.
