Inside the Tomb: A Holy Week DevotionalSample
DAY 4: SPY WEDNESDAY
Holy Wednesday, also known as Spy Wednesday, marks a somber turn in Holy Week as we recall Judas Iscariot's plot to betray Jesus. For thirty pieces of silver, Judas agrees to deliver Jesus into the hands of those who seek His life. This act of betrayal by one of His own disciples highlights the human capacity for treachery and the pain of being betrayed by someone close.
This betrayal leads us to reflect on the nature of our own commitments and the loyalty we show to our faith and relationships. It's a day to examine our hearts for any traces of betrayal toward God or others in our lives. Are we selling out our faith for worldly gains or comforts? Are there areas in our lives where we are compromising our values?
Holy Wednesday also invites us to reflect on God's steadfast love and mercy, even in the face of betrayal. Jesus knew of Judas' impending betrayal but continued to show love and patience, embodying divine grace. This challenges us to show grace and love, even when faced with betrayal or disappointment.
As we journey through this day, let's seek to be faithful in our walk with God, avoiding the pitfalls of betrayal and compromise. Let's also strive to extend grace and forgiveness, remembering the boundless grace God offers us, even when we fall short.
REFLECTION QUESTIONS
1. In what ways might I be compromising my faith or betraying the trust others have placed in me?
2. How can I embody grace and forgiveness in situations where I feel betrayed or let down?
