[Wisdom for Kids] the Purpose of Proverbs

DAY 1 OF 7

King Solomon

Meet King Solomon. He is the son of King David. One night, soon after Solomon became king, the Lord came to him in a dream and said, “Ask for whatever you want.”

What do you think Solomon asked for? Riches? More kingdoms? Fame? No!

Solomon didn’t ask for any of those things. He asked God for something far more valuable than earthly things. Solomon asked for wisdom to guide God’s people—the Israelites. Wisdom is being able to carry out good judgment in every circumstance.

Can you think of a time that you needed to do something difficult? How did you handle it?

When we ask God for wisdom, we honor Him because we let Him know that we don’t want to do whatever we please. We want God’s good judgment displayed in our lives.

(Parents/adults – talk to your child about a time you needed to ask God for wisdom to do something difficult. Discuss the different options you considered when you decided to follow God’s direction. How did things turn out?)

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I want to receive Your wisdom. I want to honor You in my life. In the name of Jesus, amen.
