Year of the Bible: Part Seven of Twelve

DAY 22 OF 30

Not All is Smoke and Vapor

"Vanity of vanities," says the Preacher...all is vanity" (Ecclesiastes 1:2). Everything is merely smoke or vapor—difficult to grasp. However, some truths are solid—these truths bring significance to life. That truth is that God will bring everything into the light, whether good or evil; at some point in time, everything will be made known. Every thought we have or had, every action we take or do not take, all will be made known.

This truth helps us look up, fix our eyes on Jesus, and recognize that God is well aware of our every breath, thought, and desire. It is God's desire for each of us to live our lives in fellowship with Him. Lots of words will be spoken, and many books will be written, but the fear—the awe—of God will guide our steps into harmony with Him. That harmony will yield a harvest of peace and joy that no other endeavor will accomplish.

Question: How are you navigating the thoughts of life's futility and vanity? Are you filled with hopelessness or hope? Have you found success over the temptation to despair by seeing the greatness of God's desire to adopt you into His family forever?

Prayer: Father, I fix my eyes on Jesus. He is the author and finisher of my story of life. I join those who have gone before me and run the course with courage and trust in You and You alone. Thank You that my life has meaning, that Your plans for me are good, and that I get to join with You in filling the earth with Your image. Amen!
