A LIFE OF REST
READ
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”—Matthew 11:28–30 (NIV)
REFLECT
Are there things in your life that feel like a burden to carry? Maybe they’re hard, painful, or heavy things. Or maybe the things you're thinking of are good things like your school, work, and family, but they’re still heavy to carry. Often, we forget we don't have to shoulder these burdens alone.
Take a moment to make a list of the things that have become heavy to carry in your life. Identify any lies the enemy whispers to you regarding that part of your life and then prayerfully surrender every burden, anxiety, and lie in exchange for God’s rest. Pray Matthew 11:28–30 over yourself and actively choose to receive God’s peace and gentle heart.
PRAY
Father, I pray that in the days ahead, You would work in my heart to dispel and remove any lies I’ve clung to from the enemy that make me rely on my own strength instead of Yours. As You help me to know You and Your identity more fully, I pray I may begin to live more confidently and fully each day while intentionally resting in You and that by Your Spirit, You would help me walk in the new, redeemed life Christ set me free for. I pray I’ll embrace Your rest today. Amen.
FOR THE FAMILY
DISCUSS
- Are there things you’re worried about that you need to give to Jesus?
- How does coming to Jesus with your worries make life easier?
PRAY
Father, I know I shouldn’t do life on my own. You’re stronger than me, and I want to use Your strength to lift me up. Today, I give You all my worries and things I can’t control. Thank You for taking them and giving me rest instead. I ask You to refresh my heart with Your rest. Amen.
