Theme: Blotting Out Transgressions

Crisis Converted Then:

All the way back to Abraham, or we could say, all the way back to Adam, God’s people have offended God with our sin. The list of sins is long. As Yahweh takes his people to court and invites them to review their past record, they are faced with their transgressions. Yet despite the punishment that Israel must suffer (disgrace and destruction), God the judge is eager to forgive. His waylaid people, teetering after decades in exile, find their offensive record expunged. God welcomes them back without even one single accusing memory.

Crisis Converted Now:

We deserve disgrace and destruction. If we traced the rebellious decisions of our lives and kept tracing the choices against God through our ancestors, we could continue tracing sin all the way back to the beginning. We have no case before God. None stand tall in the court of true justice. We all sin and fall short of God’s glory. 

Yet, we have a God who is short on anger and long on forgiveness - a God who blots away the rebellious past of our lives. That remains his great desire for those who approach him today. Can we do the same? Can you allow God to heal the memories of sin and pain in your life?
