Crisis Converted

DAY 25 OF 64

Theme: Idols are nothing.

Crisis Converted Then:

Isaiah 44:9-20 is intended to be comedy. With satire, the prophet exposes idols as man-made objects. His point is clear: “Why would a person ever worship something they created with their own hands?” The choice between worshipping the eternal, omniscient God and an idol crafted by decaying human hands seems obvious.

Crisis Converted Now:

I think most of us would find it silly to bow down and worship something crafted with our hands. Instead, our idolatry these days is much more subtle. We might not worship what we have made, but we still worship our achievements and money. What idols do we still worship from the work of our hands today?

About this Plan

Crisis Converted

This study from Isaiah 40-55 explores our identity as people affected by trauma but living in hope. In the exile, God’s nation had to find new life when their old life had been completely overturned and destroyed. Similarly, we now find ourselves trying to “return to normal” in the aftermath of a global pandemic. Yet, God can take any crisis and convert it for his glory and our growth.
