Love God Greatly - Jonah

DAY 9 OF 28

God hears our cries for help

Jonah was in the heart of the deep sea, surrounded by water and high waves. He was in the darkness, desperate and wondering if God was still there. He needed help and had nobody to turn to but God.

Being in the middle of the sea, his first thought was that he was cut off from God´s sight. We feel like this sometimes too, right? There are situations and hard times in which we think God has forsaken us. We forget that God will always listen to us when we cry out for His help. Always. And that´s what Jonah did. He cried out to the Lord and recognized he needed Him.

Hebrews 4:16 says, “Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” The devil sometimes wants us to consider Jesus as unapproachable, but because we have a High Priest who is both all-powerful and compassionate, we can come boldly to His throne.

Who do you turn to when you need help? Do you turn to your spouse, a friend, a counselor? Who is your first option? God provides help in our times of need. There is no request too big or too small for Him. He always listens to your cry for help.

Heavenly Father, my heart rests in the confidence I have in You. I praise You because Your eyes are toward the righteous and Your ears toward their cry. Amen.

About this Plan

Love God Greatly - Jonah

Regardless if we are an outsider, like the people of Nineveh, or an insider, like Jonah, to the Kingdom of God, the book of Jonah is a reminder that God goes to great lengths to demonstrate His grace and mercy to all. Be encouraged as you read this powerful story of God’s relentless grace and mercy, and may you never forget that no one is beyond redemption. May we all seek to love the loveless in our lives.
