Love God Greatly - Jonah

DAY 10 OF 28

God brings our lives out of the pit

Have you ever had a life-threatening experience? Maybe you or a loved one have gone through a severe illness, a car accident, or a major trauma. It happened to me when my daughter was four months old. She suddenly stopped breathing…and my heart stopped beating at the same time.

My husband went to the medical center with our daughter and I went behind them with my son who was two years old. During the ten minute drive, I could only cry out to God: “Please, Lord, save her.” When I arrived, I had no idea whether my daughter had made it or not. I finally saw her breathing, and tears of joy and relief started to roll down my face. That experience changed our lives forever.

I can imagine how being in the belly of that fish changed Jonah´s life, as other experiences have changed and shaped your life too. Rick Warren said, “You never know God is all you need until God is all you have.”

When we are in the deepest and darkest pit, only God can bring us out of it. When we pray to God for help, He will deliver us. It may not be exactly the way we envisioned it, but it will be according to His perfect will. And He, in a way we may not understand, will work out all things for our good and His glory.

Abba, Father, I thank You because You can hear my cry and deliver me even when I am in the darkest pit. Thank You for the many times You have helped me. Help me remember Your love and perfect will even in the hardest situations. Amen.

About this Plan

Love God Greatly - Jonah

Regardless if we are an outsider, like the people of Nineveh, or an insider, like Jonah, to the Kingdom of God, the book of Jonah is a reminder that God goes to great lengths to demonstrate His grace and mercy to all. Be encouraged as you read this powerful story of God’s relentless grace and mercy, and may you never forget that no one is beyond redemption. May we all seek to love the loveless in our lives.
